Eligible Simcenter Amesim Features

If you use a single processor, Design Exploration or Batch runs can take a very long time. Since each run is completely independent, it is both possible and desirable to use more than one processor. Simcenter Amesim can take advantage of multiple processors on your local machine or on remote machines to run these jobs more quickly, achieving spectacular reductions in total run time.

Setting up a Distributed Simulation

A distributed simulation can be set up for:

  • Local parallel or sequential jobs
  • Remote parallel or sequential jobs

Setting up a configuration for local parallel or sequential jobs

Since Rev 12, several simultaneous runs of the same batch process or design exploration study can be launched on a single machine. No extra license is required — each run consumes a single license just like an ordinary run (two parallel runs need two licenses).

Two parameters control local parallel runs:

  • Max. number of simultaneous runs — the maximum number of runs processed simultaneously on the machine for a given Simcenter Amesim session (default: 8). This accounts for any runs launched from a single Amesim session (batch run or single run).
  • Max. number of parallel runs for a single batch or design exploration study (default: 2).

Remote parallel/sequential jobs (chapter contents)

The "remote" path covers, in more depth than summarized here: preparation for remote parallel/sequential jobs, setting up the remote configuration, setting up services on a Windows PC, setting up services on a Linux PC (with separate procedures for Ubuntu/Debian and Red Hat platforms), and specifying remote hosts. These are network/service-configuration procedures for enabling Amesim to dispatch batch/design-exploration runs to other machines.
