Initial conditions
1D simulation data can be used to advantage in the setting of initial conditions – and this anywhere that 1D variables are used in the CFD model. So for instance, if the 1D results are being used to feed the inlet boundary conditions and needle lift of an injector, it can be used to set realistic values to all of these at the beginning of the CFD simulation.
This implies a prior “preliminary” 1D simulation, which would produce these initial conditions, and apply them at the appropriate locations. With more realistic boundary and initial conditions, there is potential for performance improvements in the form of a reduced total number of iterations.
