A system Σ:
receives or gives energy at its ports,
receives energy from, or gives energy to the Sources (whether hidden internally to the submodel or from an external source submodels),
stores or restores energy in its Capacitive and Inertial elements,
dissipates energy (i.e. transforms it into heat) in its Resistive elements.
In terms of equation, the power balance can be written as:
With:
power exchanged at port i (>0 if it goes into the system and <0 if it leaves it),
source power variable inside the system,
capacitive power of the system,
inertial power of the system,
resistive power of the system (always positive).
